ABOUT THE WORKSHOP: The workshop will look at a few basic aspects of directing:
1. Understanding and respecting the written word
2. Creating a version of the play that reflects you and your connection with the script
3. Throughline, characters, relationships.
4. Creating magic with your team of actors and designers.

ABOUT FACILITATOR: Anahita Uberoi is an actor, director and producer who has worked extensively in New York, Mumbai and Germany over the last 33 years . At present she can be seen in the Sony Liv web series, Rocket Boys Season 1 and 2 as well as Made in heaven Season 2. She has also recently directed As Bees in Honey Drown, a play for Aadyam - Mumbai’s most prestigious theatre festival.


Anahita grew up in a family of theatre and film personalities. She spent large amounts of her childhood backstage where she learnt about the magic as well as the rigour of the performing arts. She trained at the Herbert Berghof Studio in New York and worked as an assistant director in New York on fifteen productions, both On Broadway as well as Off Broadway where she got the opportunity to work with Oscar award and Tony award winning directors, actors and playwrights. She also worked as an assistant director to her mother, Padmashree Vijaya Mehta for the German production of Naga Mandala in Leipzig and Weimar.
 
In Mumbai, her performances have been successfully and critically acclaimed . Her performance in Agnes Of God was nominated for the Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Award. She has worked with directors like Vijaya Mehta, Rahul daCunha, Rahul Bose, Alyque Padamsee, Pearl Padamsee, Nadir Khan and Kaizaad Kotwal. Some of the plays that she has directed include Gaa Re Maa (produced by Ishitta Arun), Bombay Black (produced by Shiamak Davar), Mothers Have 9 Lives, Going Solo 1 , Going Solo 2 (self produced) among others.

Anahita has acted in films like Kapoor and Sons, Everybody Says I’m Fine, Lets Talk, White Noise, Jism, Paap and Holiday. Her short film, Afterglow, which she acted in has won the national award as well as several international awards. Anahita was a founding member of Shiamak Davar's Dance company and was also part of his faculty.


Over a period of thirty years,  she has conducted theatre workshops for adults, children as well as corporate houses in Mumbai, and other cities across India.  She was a creative consultant for BookMyShow and focussed on developing the theatre department. She was the Creative learning Director at the NCPA and has developed and led Connections India – a youth theatre festival in association with the National Theatre in the UK . This provides performing arts training by renowned theatre companies, directors and actors.
