One of Thespo’s key objectives is to celebrate outstanding work displayed by young theatre-enthusiasts of the nation. On 20 December, 2020, the theatre community gathered digitally to felicitate the exceptional young talent showcased at Thespo 22 – India’s First Digital International Youth Theatre Festival!

THESPO LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD 2020


Thespo had the honour of presenting the Lifetime Achievement Award to Jana Natya Manch, Delhi.

The Award was presented by Ms. Arundhati Nag – Actor, theatre crusader, and founder of Ranga Shankara, Bangalore. 





Ms. Moloyashree Hashmi, President, Jana Natya Manch, said a few words on behalf of the organization.


SPIRIT OF THESPO

Each year, the Spirit of Thespo award is presented to an individual (or a group of individuals) who embodies the generous, selfless, passionate and community-driven spirit of Thespo. 

This year the award was presented to Mr. Bhupesh Wankar by the three fellows for Thespo 22 – Anoushka Zaveri, Anushka Ghose and Sarah Minz. 

OUTSTANDING ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE (MALE)




The Thespo for Outstanding Actor in a Supporting Role (Male) was presented to Neil Deshpande for his performance as Epanna in “Nightmare”, and to Sunil Saini for his performance as Gutthal, Narrator and Kasturi in “Main Beedi Pikar Jhuth Ni Bolta”.








The award was presented by Ms. Surabhi Dhamal – recipient of the Pearl Padamsee Award for Outstanding Actor (Female) 2019

OUTSTANDING ENSEMBLE

 

 

The Thespo for Outstanding Ensemble was presented to “Nightmare”. The award was received by the Director, Ritika Shrotri on behalf of the team.

The Award was presented by Utsav Hande – the recipient of the Alyque Padamsee Award for Outstanding Actor (Male) 2019.

DERYCK JEFFEREIS AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING PRODUCTION DESIGN



The Deryck Jeffereis Award for Outstanding Production Design was presented to “Nightmare”. The award was received by the Director, Ritika Shrotri on behalf of the team.

The award was presented by Ms. Zuleikha Chaudhari – theatre creator and lighting designer extraordinaire. 

OUTSTANDING SHOW MANAGEMENT


The Thespo for Outstanding Show Management was presented to “The Light Catcher”. The Director, Sanket Parkhe received the award on behalf of the team.

The award was presented by Mr. Suraj Dhingra – producer with Teamwork Arts and the driving force behind the Mahindra Theatre in Excellence Awards.

OUTSTANDING NEW WRITING



The Thespo for Outstanding New Writing was presented to Atif Ally Dagman for “Miah-Boy Diaries.”

The award was presented by Ms. Asha Kuthari Chaudhuri – academic, theatre practitioner, professor at the University of Guwahati and Thespo 22 Jury Member. 

PEARL PADAMSEE AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING ACTOR (FEMALE)

The Pearl Padamsee Award for Outstanding Actor (Female) was presented to Ritika Shrotri for her performance as Kanika, Nuru, Officer, Light, Nafisa, Alejandra and Sou Yeun in “The Light Catcher”.

The award was presented by Mr. Farid Currim – actor, comedian and lifelong member of Theatre Group, Bombay.

ALYQUE PADAMSEE AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING ACTOR (MALE)




The Alyque Padamsee Award for Outstanding Actor (Male) was presented to Atif Ally Dagman for his performance as Miah-Boy in “Miah Boy Diaries”.

The award was presented by Ms. Raell Padamsee – President of Theatre Group, Bombay. 

OUTSTANDING DIRECTION



The Thespo for Outstanding Direction was presented to Ritika Shrotri for “Nightmare”.

The award was presented by Mr. Vinay Sharma – actor, Artistic Director of Padatik Theatre, Kolkata, and Thespo 22 Jury Member. 

SULTAN PADAMSEE AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING PRODUCTION



The Sultan Padamsee Award for Outstanding Production was presented to Atif Ally Dagman for “Miah-Boy Diaries”.

The award was presented by Ms. Sushama Deshpande – Indian film actress, Thespian, veteran and Thespo 22 Jury Member.
